What material do you cut your stencils out of?

On my first few stencil attempts I cut my shapes out of excess posterboard... on the last stencil painting that I did I used just plain computer paper.

The posterboard laid down onto the painting better than the computer paper... but the computer paper gave me a more fine detailed edge.

Has anyone tried anything else?  What works best for you?

i dont do a lot of stenciling either - but i've been wondering about using plastic sheeting...  kinda looked like i saw it in a video once.  Seems like most ppl use posterboard.

Hi Guys!!!  I ALWAYS use transparency film.  You can find it at Staples and other office supply places pretty cheap.  Works the best...and best of all..you can reuse the stencils over and over again..no problem.  Unlike posterboard/ paper which falls apart after using several times.   Try it out...you'll never go back to the other stuff!!

i've recently found a stash of transparency sheets at my office -- i might have to 'borrow' a few for a bit and have a go at it!

I actually bought some cheap plastic folders at the dollar store and cut them up to use for stencil work.  they are like 5o cents apiece and so far they seem to work really well.
