I've just started attempting mountains, i've seen some fantastic mountains on some of the gallery work, anyone want to share some techniques???

Alot of the mountain technique is about layering your paints...
keep in mind that the white of the paper is what will define your highlights...
Then start with the dark color of your mountains (black or brown would be a good starting point)...
THEN completely cover the area with whatever colors that you want to use for the sky background that will appear BEHIND the mountains... cover the area where you want to create the mountains...
THEN use a magazine sheet to define your mountains... kind of sweep away the paint to REVEAL the dark part that you sprayed previously...
THEN once you've got the shape down, go back in and use the palette knife to define the highlights of the mountain...

Go to www.spraypaint.tv and search for brandon mcconnell or "spacepaintings" and look for a video to pop up that shows mountains.  Brandon McConnell does a lot of really good tutorials showing great techniques to make mountains.

Other than that - it's just a lot of practice!!  I'm still working on mine as well.

Hey - another technique to add detail to your mountains is by adding highlights or snow to the peaks.  Spray some white off to the side, THEN use a palette knife or piece of posterboard and dip it into the white paint, then apply to to the top edges of your mountains... just kinda brush it on using the posterboard or knife.

I've been spray painting for about 7 months now - but I've been an artist my whole life.  I've just never thought of using rattle-can spray paint for fine art until I saw a couple videos on youtube.
