I was wondering what is the best way to ship our paintings.  Can I roll them up and put them in a tube?  One is 22x28 that I need to ship.  Thanks for your ideas!

Susan

From all of my trial and error now I ship 22" x 28" paintings in a box about 24" x 15" x 15" the painting will lay curved in a "U" shape. Rolling paintings can mess them up if they are rolled too tightly. If you still need to roll it,the tightest I would roll a painting that size is probably a 6"-8" Diameter cylinder.

Dear Susan, as you well know I am all about the recycling, revamping items, I would not recommend rolling your paintings for shipping, Once a week when I am shopping at the grocery store or whereever, I ask for brown corragated cardboard boxes, I choose ones too take home that I know I can cut up into 12" x 16" pieces, even though there might be printing on them, the inside is blank. I buy shrink plastic for windows which come in different sizes, and cut and wrap my painting like a present and seal shut with clear tape on the back, this way the painting is protected from the elements if left on a doorstep which is what they do now adays. It is sandwhiched between the two pieces of cardboard with the lettering or logos on the iside, as the postoffice and ups dont like the logos on outside, so the plain brown is on outside for addressing and stamping... I tape all four sides shut with clear packaging tape, and write on it in large letters--DO NOT BEND, I have not had a problem with any shipping company shipping these out, and we are recyling also, if anything I have received feedback from receiving customers, they liked it that I used recycled materials for my shipping, not one has reported it was bent, crushed or water damaged, you can also buy small clear trash bags for like a bathroom size wastebasket at Walmart and dollar stores to wrap painting in if dont want too or cant find the window plastic, and just fold them back and tape down too protect.. I also stop once a wk. at the liquor store they put out their wine boxes, which have dividers and handles cut into them for lifting, they come home and I decorate them and uses them for  carrying my crafts in the divider ones, or cut the front down for displaying my mulitlple unframed paintings in, I can carry them easily and it looks professional on the display table for people too thumb thru the art and takes less table space also... I will post a pic of one I am doing for my show in Feb. that I am going too put my spacepaintigs in so you all can get the idea, before of box, after painted and show the art standing up in it.... hope this helps you and our other friends for ideas for shipping and displaying art, lets think outside the box and recycle,,,, its free!!!!!!!!Love LINDA
