Day one, “The Set-up” Friday

            I had my buddy and my sister help with the event. We were pretty excited about our first real event. Chris, (TOPHER_cMc) and I have only been painting for a short while and I was the one who taught him. The thought of being watched for real was a bit over whelming.

            The gates opened at 5pm for set up and were set to close at pm. We got there at around 6pm and thought that we might be shunned for being late but what we saw when we got there was a little depressing. Driving to the building/ barn that we were supposed to set up in we felt like we were trespassing on a farmer’s property. It did not feel like fair grounds. No large amounts of venders or attractions. Instead we saw probably 10 vehicles and two were bulldozers.

            We found our area and to our surprise it was quite large. I’d have to say 15’x8’. We set our stuff up in a very short time and sat around for an hour or so wondering if we were going to leave our stuff here over night. The entire venue felt cheesy and low grade.

            We did leave some stuff paints boards and stands… but took our paintings and frames.

 Day 2, First day of “Fair” Saturday

            We showed up at 8am (the “opening” time) but just sat around till noon. There was no one… The only people that stopped by were the other venders. We got tons of compliments but no one that wanted takes one with them.

            Till right around noon we sold our first painting. It was a framed 11x14 painting of a moon and mountains that sat above a water fall. She loved it and we like the idea that we were not going to be wasting our time. The heat was very bad and mixed with humidity that made our paintings curl we were not having a “Blast” or at least the way we thought we would. The first day was good though. We sold 3 paintings 2 framed and held a drawing for another. We sold 45 $1 tickets for a 11x14 painting.             &am p;nb sp;

            The first wasn’t as profitable as I wanted. But I did sell some and enjoyed my first day out.

 Day 3, Sunday

            We decided to go start at noon this time because of the lateness of the crowds on the first day. This day proved to be a much better day. The weather was cooler and the crowds were more alive. Although I was still dealing with farmers and people that had no interest in anything other than the free will donation food lines…We still enjoyed Day 3.

 Day 4, Monday

            As the fair goes on it seems that there isn’t any “New” faces. We keep getting the same crowds and same kids that watch us paint. I am now wondering about our future endeavors being as lame as this. By now we have sold 6 framed paintings and a few unframed ones. The prices vary depending on the day sold. (as the week went on we lowered our demands.) We had also been holding drawings for a painting each day. They seemed to make the most money.

 Day 5 and 6, Tuesday, Wednesday

            On these days the TK Designs booth was open but I had to work. Chris and my sister have been reporting back to me that it is completely dead.

I really think I chose the wrong venue to start out in. O-well Ill chalk it up to a good learning expirence and at least I made a little money out of the deal.

   AND THERE WAS NO WIND!!!! …. Ha-ha Munden j/k

No wind?!  Lucky.

I know what you mean about choosing the wrong venue...  I've done farmer's markets and even tho ppl will think that the painting is cool, they're totally NOT there for art.  It sucks.  And the first show I went to was an indoor craft show... my space art definitely stood out! but not so much in a good way.  lol
