Seeking Advice
Posted On 06/25/08 01:06 PM by slackermtg

Hi people, I am fairly new to the space painting art form. So far I love it! I am struggling a little bit right now, as I can not get landscapes, like mountains and caverns to turn out right. I have tried everything I could think of and I am looking for some advice from who ever might be able to help.

 Thanks in advance!

I believe that my current problem with doing the mountains and landscape is that my paint dries to fast. I typically do all my painting at night, but I live in Las Vegas, where it is still around 90 degrees in my garage at night, even with a fan helping with cooling the garage. Should I be using more paint? or do I just need to wait until the summer has passed and try again in the colder seasons?

First things first: watch a ton of videos and try to create what you see in the video. In my opinion it's a good way to judge whether you're really understanding the techniques presented to you. If you're able to reproduce the piece in the video, or at least something similar to it, then you're probably doing pretty well. Once you have it down to where you feel comfortable with it then you can start applying the techniques to your own style and your own creative ventures.

Here's a couple options to get you started...

in my profile on this site I have a couple of videos posted of 2 of my favorite spraypainters doing landscapes. Check them out and see what they're doing for techniques.

also check out:
www.SprayPaint.tv
and do some searches for "spray art" or "spacepainting" and see what you can find. OR here's a direct link to one of the guy's profiles that's really helpful:

http://www.spraypaint.tv/Spacepainter/public/

Also, check out YouTube.com and do a search on there for "spacepainting" and maybe add the tag "mountains"

NOW MOST IMPORTANTLY, once you can narrow down your issues and be a little more specific with what you need help with I will gladly offer suggestions, as will most of the active members of this site. You also might try posting these concerns in the forum.

Hope this all helps! Good luck!
